Materi Introduction

 Materi Introduction dibahas dalam Chapter 2 (This is me). Dalam bab ini membahas beberapa bagian, seperti: Alphabet, pronoun, colour, family, dan Hobbies. Pada kesempatan ini penulis ingin fokuskan  pada Materi Introduction atau perkenalan baik, Self introduction(Perkenalan diri sendiri) maupun Introducing other to another (Memperkenalkan orang lain).

Hello, friends, I am Shidqi.

1.	Self Introduction (Perkenalan diri sendiri)
	Ketika kita ingin memperkenalkan diri kita sendiri kepada orang lain, maka berikut adalah ungkapan/ekspresi yang lazim digunakan: -         Let me introduce my self -         Allow me to introduce myself -         I would like to introduce myself, my names is... -         Good morning everybody, My name’s ... -         Hello, I am ... -         I want to introduce myself
	Contoh: Good morning friends. Let me introduce myself. My name is Muhammad Fayyadh Shidqi. You can call me “Shidqi”. Nice to meet you.
2.	Introducing other to another (Memperkenalkan orang lain)
	Setelah kita sudah belajar cara memperkenalkan diri dalam Bahasa Inggris, kita selanjutnya belajar cara memperkenalkan orang lain. Berikut adalah gambit/ekspresi umum yang digunakan: -         I would like to introduce you to ... -         Let me introduce you to ... -         I would like you to meet... -         I want to introduce you to... -         Hi Erna, This is Soni, Soni, this is Erna.
	Contoh: Darmy : Hi, Tuny. I would liket to introduce you to my sister. This is                          Daonah. Tuny : Hi, Daonah. How do you do? Daonah: Hello, Tuny. How do you do?
How do you do (Apa kabar) digunakan untuk pertama kali ketemu. Selanjutnya dapat digunakan How are you untuk menanyakan kabar.
3.	Asking for and telling one’s name (Menanyakan nama dan mengeja nama seseorang)
	Berikut adalah ungkapan yang biasa digunakan untuk menanyakan nama kepada orang lain yang belum  kita ketahui namanya beserta cara menyebutkan nama dalam ejaannya:
	Asking for peoples’s name -         What is your name? -         What is your nickname? -         How do you spell your name?	Responses -         My name is Fayyadh Shidqi Faisal -         Shidqi -         /es/-/eij/-/ai/-/di/- /kyu/- /ai/ (Shidqi)

4.	Asking for and telling address (Menanyakan alamat dan cara meresponnya
	Asking for people’s address -         Where do you live? -         What’s your address? -         Where are you from? -         Where do you come from?	Responses -         I live in Wonosegoro Village. -         I live at 56 Jalan Maju Mundur Batang -         I’m from Siberuk -         I come from Bandar-Batang

Showing Appreciation Expressing compliments ( Kalimat Pujian / Penghargaan )

Showing appreciation adalah ungkapan yang digunakan untuk memberi penghargaan atau pujian atau komentar terhadap seseorang mengenai penampilan, prestasi, dan sebagainya.

Untuk memberi pujian atau kekaguman kepada seseorang kita dapat menggunakan kalimat kekaguman dengan menggunakan “How/What”. How atau what di sini bukan berarti kata tanya atau question word tetapi berati “Alangkah, betapa atau sungguh”

Contoh:

How handsome you are! (Alangkah gantengnya kamu)

How smart you are! (Betapa pintarnya kamu)

How clean this room is! (Sungguh bersih ruangan ini)

What a kind man he is! (Betapa baiknya laki-laki itu)

What a nice t-shirt! (Betapa bagus kaos ini)

What an expensive motorcycle it is! (Alangkah mahalnya sepeda motor itu)

What cheap laptops they are! (Sungguh murah laptop-laptop itu)

Checking for Understanding ( mengecek pemahaman seseorang )

 Materi Bahasa Inggris Kelas 8 Semester I setelah Asking for Attention, yang kedua adalah Checking for Understanding. Checking for undertanding adalah ungkapan atau ekspresi yang digunakan untuk mengecek pemahaman seseorang atau lawan bicara kita mengenai apa yang kita sampaikan kepadanya. Respon yang diberikan bisa positif (paham) atau negatif (tidak paham).

Contoh Dialog Checking  for Understanding 

1.	Checking for understanding (Mengecek Pemahaman) -          Do you know what I mean? -          Do you know what I am saying -          Do you follow me? -          Do you undertand? -          Got it? -          Is it clear? -          Are you following me?
2.	Showing understanding (Menunjukkan kepahaman) -          I see -          I understand -          I get it -          Yes -          I understand what you are saying -          I know what you mean -          I’m with you
3.	Expressing Lack of Undertanding (Menunjukkan kekurang pahaman/tidak paham) -          I don’t get it -          I’m sorry. What do you mean? -          Excuse me, but I’m not following you -          Again, please -          I don’t understand -          What do you mean? -          I don’t quite follow you

Dialogue 1

Mr. Shidqi	: We will make an advertisement today. Do you understand?
Students	: Yes, Sir.
Mr. Shidqi	: What did I say?
Students	: We will make an advertisement, sir.

Dialogue 2

Mother	: Dear, can you help me to cook fish?
Tiara	: Yes, Mom
Mother	: Will you buy me some fish in the market, first?
Tiara	: Okay, Mom. I will go there by a motorcycle
Mother	: All right. And please don’t forget to buy ginger at Mak Sumi’s shop.
	Do you know what I mean, dear?
Tiara	: I don’t quite follow you, Mom.
Mother	: please don’t forget to buy ginger at Mak Sumi’s shop Okay, be careful   dear.
Tiara	: thank you Mom. I’ll go now.

 Setelah kita belajar mengenai sapaan dan pamitan atau greeting and leave taking, berikut nya kita belajar mengenai cara berterima kasih (expressing gratitute) dan meminta maaf (Making apology).

Apologizing, to apologize artinya meminta maaf atas kesalahan/kekhilafan kepada orang lain. Dengan kata lain, meminta maaf dapat berarti menyesali atas perbuatan yang telah dilakukan.

Berikut adalah ungkapan/ekspresi dan tanggapan atau menerima maaf yang umumnya digunakan untuk meminta maaf kepada orang lain:
